138 - Dal Parcheggio Arera al Rifugio SABA

Acquistare prima di parcheggiare il biglietto per la sosta ed esporlo sul cruscotto. Parcheggiamo in un ampio spazio sterrato. Nell’incamminarci verso l’inizio della strada asfaltata per Capanna 2000 vediamo un palo segnaletico. Proseguiamo su un tratto asfaltato posto sotto ad un grosso condominio. Raggiunto l’incrocio svoltiamo a sinistra e proseguiamo. Un secondo palo segnaletico ci informa sul percorso da seguire. La strada ben tenuta sale con una discreta pendenza. Al bivio proseguiamo sulla strada di destra. Raggiunta la sbarra aperta, stando sulla destra, scopriamo che la pendenza è ora del 12%. Ci troviamo di fronte il tornante n° 1 che curva verso destra. Raggiungiamo il tornante n° 2 che curva verso sinistra. La strada spiana leggermente ed incontriamo una lussureggiante vegetazione. Lungo il percorso siamo accolti da piante di Maggiociondolo. Proseguiamo verso il 3° tornante che curva verso destra. Al successivo tornante verso destra, scorgiamo sulla sinistra dei pannelli illustrativi. Ci riproponiamo al ritorno di sostare per ammirare la Cattedrale Vegetale. Un altro palo segnaletico ci fornisce ulteriori informazioni sui percorsi. In lontananza vediamo il sopraggiungere di un altro tornante. Svoltiamo decisamente a sinistra e proseguiamo. I tornanti si succedono in continuità alternandosi tra verso destra e verso sinistra. La salita grazie ai tornanti risulta con una pendenza abbastanza costante e ci consente di rifiatare. Sempre salendo ammiriamo il variare della vegetazione. Siamo quasi usciti da bosco e la vegetazione si fa più rada. Il sole incomincia a scaldarci dopo la bassa temperatura della partenza. In questo tornante sulla destra notiamo un piccolo sbarramento che informa che il rifugio è chiuso. Abbiamo quasi raggiunto la nostra meta, che vedremo sulla destra alla fine di questo tratto in salita. A sinistra scorgiamo il parcheggio di Capanna 2000. In lontananza scorgiamo l’Arera. Dopo aver svoltato a destra scendiamo su un piccolo sentiero e raggiungiamo la Cappella di S. Barbara. Scendiamo, più in basso, ed ecco il Rifugio SABA (Società Alpinistica Bergamo Alta). Dopo una breve sosta, ci incamminiamo verso valle su erba e sbuchiamo al tornante più in basso. Ci voltiamo per un saluto al Rifugio SABA. Mentre scendiamo svoltiamo, fuori dalla strada, a destra, per ammirare la Cattedrale Vegetale, quindi proseguiamo verso il punto di partenza di questa mattina.

Buy your parking ticket before parking and display it on the dashboard. We park in a large, unpaved area. As we walk towards the start of the tarmac road to Capanna 2000, we see a signpost. We continue along a tarmac section beneath a large block of flats. At the junction, we turn left and carry on. A second signpost indicates the route to follow. The well-maintained road climbs at a moderate gradient. At the fork, we take the right-hand road. Upon reaching the open barrier, keeping to the right, we find that the gradient is now 12%. We come to hairpin bend no. 1, which curves to the right. We reach hairpin bend no. 2, which curves to the left. The road levels out slightly and we pass through lush vegetation. Along the way, we are greeted by laburnum trees. We continue towards the third hairpin bend, which curves to the right. At the next right-hand bend, we spot some information boards on the left. We resolve to stop on the way back to admire the ‘Vegetation Cathedral’. Another signpost provides further information on the routes. In the distance, we can see another hairpin bend approaching. We turn sharply left and carry on. The hairpin bends follow one after another, alternating between right and left. Thanks to the bends, the climb has a fairly steady gradient, allowing us to catch our breath. As we continue climbing, we admire the changing vegetation. We have almost left the woods behind and the vegetation is becoming sparser. The sun begins to warm us after the cool temperatures at the start. At this hairpin bend on the right, we notice a small barrier indicating that the mountain hut is closed. We have almost reached our destination, which we will see on the right at the end of this uphill stretch. To the left, we can see the Capanna 2000 car park. In the distance, we can see the Arera. After turning right, we descend along a narrow path and reach the Chapel of St Barbara. We continue downwards, and there is the SABA Mountain Hut (Società Alpinistica Bergamo Alta). After a short break, we set off down towards the valley across grassy ground and emerge at the bend further down. We turn back to wave a farewell to the SABA Mountain Hut. As we descend, we turn off the road to the right to admire the ‘Vegetational Cathedral’, then continue towards this morning’s starting point.
