53 - Val Vertova

È questa un’escursione che non ha come meta una cima o un rifugio, ma si conclude in uno slargo di fronte alla cancellata di accesso alle prese di un acquedotto. È una passeggiata che segue il tracciato principale sul fondo della Val Vertova, per niente faticosa e in un ambiente dal clima gradevole anche durante i mesi estivi. L’accesso alla valle è consentito solo a piedi da giugno a ottobre con pagamento di un biglietto giornaliero. Dalla piazza centrale di Vertova si imbocca la strada per la Val Vertova e, dopo 2 chilometri, si giunge in via Cinque Martiri e troviamo l’ultimo parcheggio disponibile. Proseguiamo sulla strada asfaltata e raggiungiamo il “Circolo della Valle”, ormai in disuso. Superiamo l’edificio e ci incamminiamo sulla strada sterrata. Sulla sinistra, al di là del torrente vediamo una zona attrezzata per la sosta. Stiamo arrivando al tratto finale prima della sbarra. Raggiungiamo la sbarra che blocca il traffico veicolare. A destra è presente una zona parcheggio regolamentata. Dopo la sbarra ci si immette sulla stradina (segnavia C.A.I. 527) che entra nell’ombroso bosco di carpini, aceri e frassini il quale fiancheggia il torrente Vertova. Superato il primo ponticello si perviene alla località del “Fontanì di Gaernei” (510 m. 20’ dalla sbarra). Proseguendo, sulla sinistra ammiriamo un fontanino in legno. Sempre sul lato sinistro del sentiero è presente un tabellone illustrativo della valle Vertova. Proseguendo, raggiungiamo una zona di calma del torrente e ci incamminiamo sulla salita. Guardando tra gli alberi vediamo la prima cascatella del torrente. Dopo un breve tratto del sentiero raggiungiamo e superiamo un ponticello in muratura. Sulla destra del sentiero raggiungiamo una costruzione ben curata. Superato il casolare, sulla destra è presente una lapide ricordo della strage nazi fascista della val Vertova. Proseguendo, raggiungiamo sulla destra una piccola sorgente protetta. Dopo un breve tratto, sulla strada sono presenti cartelli indicatori che segnalano il pericolo di caduta sassi. La strada prosegue, inerpicandosi nella valle su di un fondo ben tenuto e compatto. La salita continua, ma lo splendido panorama, ci invoglia a proseguire. Raggiunto il primo guado, ci apprestiamo a superarlo, camminando sulle pietre sul lato sinistro e utilizzando il corrimano metallico presente. Seguendo la strada, che ora è a sinistra del torrente, ammiriamo degli scorci molto piacevoli. Raggiungiamo il secondo guado, che ci permette di spostarci nuovamente a destra del torrente. La strada, sempre ben tenuta, sale con pendenza discreta verso l’alta valle. Passiamo sotto a massi ciclopici ed ammiriamo il torrente sulla sinistra. La strada, ora con bassa pendenza, ci permette di ammirare le cascatelle del torrente. In fondo alla valle ammiriamo una breve catena di monti. Raggiungiamo ora un nuovo cartello indicatore e superiamo il ponticello. Raggiunto il bivio, proseguiamo tenendo la destra. Arriviamo, dopo poco tempo, ad una cancellata che ci indica che non è più possibile proseguire. Dopo una breve sosta, ripartiamo verso valle, seguendo il percorso dell’andata e raggiunto il ponticello, ammiriamo sulla destra la trasparenza ed il colore dell’acqua. Sulla via del ritorno, siamo accompagnati dal rumore delle cascatelle del torrente e dalle numerose sorgenti presenti lungo il percorso.

This is an excursion that does not have a summit or a refuge as its destination, but ends in a widening in front of the access gate to the inlets of an aqueduct. It is a walk that follows the main route along the bottom of the Vertova Valley, not at all tiring and in an environment with a pleasant climate even during the summer months. Access to the valley is only permitted on foot from June to October with payment of a day ticket. From Vertova's central square, we take the road to Val Vertova and, after 2 kilometres, we come to Via Cinque Martiri and find the last available car park. We continue along the asphalted road and reach the now disused "Circolo della Valle". We pass the building and walk along the dirt road. On the left, across the stream, we see a picnic area. We are coming to the final stretch before the barrier. We reach the barrier that blocks vehicular traffic. To the right is a regulated parking area. After the barrier, we take the small road (C.A.I. signpost 527) that enters the shady hornbeam, maple and ash woods that flank the Vertova stream. After crossing the first small bridge, we reach the locality of "Fontanì di Gaernei" (510 m. 20' from the barrier). Continuing on, on the left we admire a small wooden fountain. Also on the left side of the path is an illustrative board of the Vertova valley. Continuing on, we reach a calm area of the stream and set off uphill. Looking through the trees, we see the first small waterfall of the stream. After a short stretch of the path we reach and cross a small masonry bridge. On the right side of the path we reach a well-kept building. Past the cottage, on the right is a memorial plaque commemorating the Nazi-Fascist massacre in the Vertova valley. Continuing on, we reach a small protected spring on the right. After a short stretch, there are signs on the road warning of the danger of falling stones. The road continues, climbing into the valley on a well-maintained and compact surface. The climb continues, but the splendid panorama entices us to continue. Having reached the first ford, we prepare to cross it, walking on the stones on the left side and using the metal handrail present. Following the road, which is now to the left of the stream, we admire some very pleasant views. We reach the second ford, which allows us to move again to the right of the stream. The road, which is still well maintained, climbs at a fair gradient towards the upper valley. We pass under cyclopean boulders and admire the stream on the left. The road, now with a low gradient, allows us to admire the small waterfalls of the stream. At the bottom of the valley we admire a short chain of mountains. We now reach a new signpost and cross the small bridge. Reaching the crossroads, we continue keeping to the right. We arrive, after a short time, at a gate indicating that it is no longer possible to continue. After a short stop, we set off downstream again, following the outward journey, and when we reach the small bridge, we admire the transparency and colour of the water on the right. On the way back, we are accompanied by the sound of the small waterfalls of the stream and the numerous springs along the way.
