Descrizione
The hut is located at an altitude of 1704 m, in the municipality of Carona. On some maps it is indicated as “Casera dei Dossi” dairy. The hut is easily reachable by paths to Calvi and Longo Huts starting from Carona (path n° 210, then connection to path n° 224). In winter, skis or snowshoes are recommended.
The hut has 22 beds, a wood stove, a gas stove, kitchen, electricity by solar panels, a fireplace and running water.
The hut is available for all the members of the Sesto San Giovanni section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). Independent groups can contact the club for the availability. Usually the hut is managed by members, but it can be rented unmanned. Meals can be catered separately.
The hut is an excellent base for hiking and mountaineering trips, as it is located at the border between a pine forest and the alpine pastures, close to several peaks ranging from 2500 to 3000 m.
Local flora (gentian, lily, buttercup, saxifrage, etc.) and fauna (marmot, ibex, chamois, roe, eagle, fox, etc.) favors naturalistic observations. In winter, several alpine skiing paths are present.
The surrounding mountain huts, the peaks accessible as well as the numerous well-marked trails, favor hiking and mountaineering projects.
In addition, the usual abundant snowfalls make the area extremely pleasant and attractive for the practice of ski-mountaineering, ski-hiking and snowshoeing until the early summer.
